It has been a few weeks since the last update on the Burgess Hill Place and Connectivity Programme pedestrian and cycle improvements being delivered in Burgess Hill. I have today received the following update from WSCC:
The works are progressing well and the project team continue to update the FAQ’s, project details including traffic management requirements and indicative programme - https://yourvoice.westsussex.gov.uk/bhpcp. Unless there are specific queries relating to the delivery of this project, the website will be the most efficient way of answering most queries.
Recent Works
- Completion of raised table crossing points at Wolstonbury Way, Queens Crescent, The Brow and School Close during the Easter break together with continuing works to widen the northern footway of Queen Elizabeth Avenue.
- At Wivelsfield, the block paving is now complete to the station frontage and areas under the rail bridge with work continuing on the laybys to the station frontage.
- Significant progress has been made on snagging items in the town centre, including the recent approval from DfT to mount ‘No Entry’ signs on the back of the Mill Road signals to avoid the historically confusing signing in place prior to the scheme commencing.
Looking Forward into Next Week
- Work is continuing at Wivelsfield Station to extend the new block paving to the east and construction of the new laybys – please note that these works require the use of temporary traffic signals for the safe movement of traffic, pedestrians and site operatives and the contract team will continue to engage with the local community to ensure access is maintained at all times. All traffic management requirements are detailed on the webpages and the county council streetworks information pages.
- Work also continues at Queen Elizabeth Avenue to widen the northern footway
The project team continue to work with WSCC Carriageway Resurfacing Team to ensure best value in coordinating parts of the WSCC resurfacing programme with the projects resurfacing of Station Road. This work is currently programmed for July.
We are also working closely with the WSCC Maintenance and Drainage Teams to investigate persistent highway drainage issues through the town centre and assess where the current works being delivered by Landbuild may be able to address these long-standing issues.
The scheme remains a live project with areas still under construction and there will continue to be some local traffic controls and we are doing all we can to keep these to a minimum and we thank you for your continued understanding whilst we complete the project which we believe will bring many benefits to the area.
We are continuing wider communications with a range of stakeholders through the web pages and social media and we will shortly be publishing an animated ‘fly-through’ of the scheme to support the wider promotion and understanding of the scheme.
