Mims Davies MP celebrates 80th Anniversary of Canadian Wing with Queen Victoria Hospital
QVH was forged during the Second World War and celebrated the anniversary with an event that brought together countries, military personnel, patients, politicians and clinicians.
The Canadian Wing was constructed by the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers and then handed over to the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 28th, 1944.
This brilliant wing in the hospital has provided, and continues to provide, life-changing care and rehabilitation services for patients undergoing plastics and reconstructive surgery.
Mims was thrilled to join this event which was organised with the aim to recognise the achievements of the Canadian Wing and the outstanding care provided by its staff since its creation.
The celebration also provided the chance to reflect on the Canadian Wing’s important historical links to the Canadian and British Armed Forces and the vital contribution it has made in caring for those aircrew patients injured in the war.
The event was also joined by QVH Chief Executive James Lowell, East Grinstead Town Mayor, Steve Ody, and Captain Chris Peschke, Naval Adviser for Canadian Defence.
Mims Davies MP said:
"It really was an honour to join Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead and their brilliant team to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of their Canadian Wing.
This place is incredible; truly wonderful and it was lovely to be back and reflect on the past 80 years of life-changing work this wing continues to house.
Thank you QVH for everything you do for residents and beyond."
