Mims Davies MP was pleased to meet with Nick from the Postcode Lottery in Parliament to discuss the local charity funding available in East Grinstead, Uckfield and the villages
Mims was thrilled to join representatives from the charity lottery sector in Parliament, where we discussed local charities funding by players of People’s Postcode Lottery in East Grinstead, Uckfield and the villages and the fundraising of charity lotteries across Britain.
Mims, however, was concerned to hear of the Labour government’s plan to subject the not-for-profit lottery sector to a ‘Charity Tax’ as part of the mandatory gambling levy which is supposed to tackle the harm generated by high risk forms of gambling offered by commercial bookmakers and casinos.
Mims Davies MP said:
I was very pleased to meet with Nick from the Postcode Lottery in Parliament recently.
It was very useful to discuss some of the regulatory issues holding back the vital fundraising of the charity lottery sector.
Such lotteries are the only gambling or fundraising product subject to an annual cap on sales – an issue on which I am pleased to have led significant reform of when a minister in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
I will continue to champion this issue in this parliament to ensure charity lotteries can generate even more for charities and good causes here in East Grinstead and Uckfield and elsewhere.
