Mims Davies MP signs GB Wine APPG Letter ahead of the Budget
Mims and her colleagues signed the letter to support the growth of the Great British wine industry.
Domestic wine production has made impressive strides over the past years, rising to meet growing domestic and international demand and picking up countless awards on the way for everything from sustainability to job creation to its outstanding product.
The letter states that signatories support the budget submission produced by WineGB, the trade body for British Wine, and endorsed by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Wine of Great Britain. The submission seeks, amongst other support:
- A fairer tax regime for British Wine including a duty cut to put us on an even footing with most countries in Europe which do not levy excise on home-grown products.
- Support for economically valuable wine tourism in the form of Cellar Door Relief, again as common in other wine producing countries.
- Extension of the successful Small Producer Relief (to wine to avoid discrimination)
- Export support and partnerships to increase market penetration overseas
- Introduction of arrivals duty-free at UK ports and airports to provide travel incentives.
The letter continues - this sector is new and relies on the Government proudly championing its growth now and into the future. We hope you will take the time to consider this submission and look forward to hearing from you.
