Today I have donned my reindeer antlers and my Christmas jumper and driven to Oriel School in Crawley to help the Greenaway Foundation deliver, with at least 400 other reindeer (volunteers), the hampers that this amazing charity has put together.
Each year the Greenaway foundation sends out hampers which contain all the ingredients needed to cook a two course Christmas Dinner to families who have been nominated as needing extra support. Children from these families are then encouraged to make Christmas wishes for a Christmas gift via the ‘wishing trees’
This year Darren and his elves have packed and sent out around 900 hampers with 1600 Christmas wishes (presents.) It is incredibly moving to leave with the hampers and drive past the long queue of cars patiently waiting to be loaded with their hampers to deliver. This is truly the meaning of Christmas spirit and I, wholeheartedly, thank all those involved, and there are so many people in a project of this scale.
I am so very humbled to be asked to be part of this incredible project and it is with pleasure that I met with some of the sponsors, donors and other key players before delivering the hampers. It was also wonderful to see Lady Emma Barnard, The Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex and Mr Andy Bliss the Lord High Sheriff of West Sussex in attendance.
Darren’s wish, when I first helped out in 2020, was to deliver hampers to 1000 families, he is so very close to this goal and with more donations and offers of help I know that he will achieve this. If you can help in any way do email Darren at [email protected]
