Mims Davies MP was delighted to join the Poppy Ride in Parliament for Remembrance Day 2023.
The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) is an independent, non-lobbying, non-partisan charity that provides a trusted platform of engagement between Parliament and UK business.
Mims was thrilled to have the opportunity to join in on the 7th annual IPT Poppy Ride, in association with the Royal British Legion, which raises funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal in Parliament. MPs and Peers took part in the 10-hour static bike ride, each cycling as far as they can on an exercise bike in 5 minutes and trying to beat their colleagues to top the leader board!
The bike ride took place from 08:00 to 20:00 in Portcullis House where MPs, Peers and Parliamentary Officials took it in turns to cycle as far as they could in 5 minutes in an effort to reach the top spot on the leader board. All money raised helps the Royal British Legion provide lifelong financial, social, and emotional support for the Armed Forces community.
The Royal British Legion is the country’s largest Armed Forces charity, with 180,000 members, 110,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities. It provides lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. From providing expert advice and guidance, to recovery and rehabilitation, through to transitioning to civilian life - they are a lifelong friend and support to every member of the Armed Forces community.
For the 2023 Poppy Appeal the Royal British Legion have introduced a new plastic-free poppy, made entirely from paper. Maintaining the iconic poppy design and leaf shape, this is the first time in 28 years that a new poppy has been developed.
The plastic-free poppy is created from bespoke red and green paper manufactured by specialist papermaker James Cropper. After Remembrance Sunday the plastic-free poppy can be easily recycled at home via ordinary paper recycling collections.
Mims Davies MP said:
"I was so pleased to be able to support the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal by taking part in the Poppy Ride in Parliament this week.
I am grateful to The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) for hosting this brilliant event.
The work the IPT does is invaluable in bridging the gap between Parliament and businesses and I am looking forward to working with them in the future.”
