Last week saw the Conservative Party Conference- a great place to catch up with the many good causes and key sectors. This year I met widening-ranging groups and organisations such as Womens’s Aid, Gatwick Airport and the Peoples Post Code Lottery -their funding will open again next year and I will be hosting training for charities and community groups on what key additional funding streams are available and how to apply for grants. Do contact me if you wish to attend.
The conference recess also allows a fantastic opportunity to spend more time locally, recent visits included visiting pupils at Newick Primary undertaking their Bikeability training, designed to keep children safe whilst cycling on our roads. If you’re a motorist, please do be extra vigilant as we enter our darker phase of the year. Attended a ‘Be Legends’ Internet Safety Assembly at Bonners School in Maresfield, which is vital for our children as they venture into the digital world and supported a wonderful MacMillan fundraising Coffee morning at the Isle of Thorns Bowls Club in Chelwood Gate to name a few.
It was a absolute pleasure to meet constituents in Wivelsfield at my recent ‘Meet Mims’ event, to listen, understand and discuss with residents across the patch what concerns and issues they have. We have taken away casework from this and I and my team are working on the matters raised. I will be organising more of these events, along with further supermarket surgeries in various different locations across the constituency.
It was incredibly heart-warming to see how many people opened their homes to those fleeing the Ukraine. Our Ukrainian guests now need to immediately apply for their e-visa, as the Biometric Residents’ Permit (B.R.P) cards need to be replaced by 31 December 2024. This will require the creation of a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) account. Details of how to do this can be found on this Government website link. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immigration-status-evisa Do not wait for a letter from the Home Office. My website has more details on further local in person assistance which I’ll update as more information arrives.
