It’s the 1st anniversary of British Sign Language advisory board & as Minister for Disabled People, Health & work, I joined to BBC Access All podcast about the impact of BSL Advisory Board shaping Government policies that enable Deaf BSL users to live their lives to the fullest. Throughout their first year, they’ve invaluable insight & expertise & helped build a stronger picture of the barriers for Deaf people & how we best tackle them, amongst areas including education, sport, & health & social care.
On Friday, PPC for the new shaped Mid Sussex seat Kristy Adams & I got together with one of the mobile phone providers to highlight the absolutely abysmal mobile signal in parts of Cuckfield & into Haywards Heath. All made worse by extra houses around a network that needs more support. We are both pushing for this in our area as the broadband connection improves the mobile not spots grow. This is unacceptable & we are working together to sort this out for all residents.
I enjoyed summer Pimms in Horsted Keynes at the fantastic May Fair on the recreation ground. Absolutely packed out with so much fun from the dog show, country dancing, & the tug of war! Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, & the weather for making it another memorable afternoon for me & the community raising money for the St Giles PTA.
I’d the honour of joining Cllr Jackie Love, Mayor of Uckfield Town Council, at the formal reopening of Uckfield Farmers Market after the covid impact on a new site- they had stunning local produce, cinnamon buns, plants, & coffee bar. Also, some brilliant bangers for dinner to have watching Eurovision. Well done to Cllr Michael Lunn for getting this back together & those popping by-totally delighted to see this back in Uckfield every 2nd Saturday of the month, I know other towns in our area are very keen to do the same & I was pleased to learn how it had happened. It benefits from free car parking, & I know traders see this as a key attraction.
