Mims Davies MP Weekly round up on Mid Sussex Funding, Minister for Rail Visit, Royal Mail Meetings & Pharmacy First Launch.
Over £10,000 grassroot funding
I am thrilled our brilliant Mid Sussex has gained over £10,000 of investment for grassroot sports facilities.
There is a clear link between feeling your best, both mentally and physically, and exercising regularly. That is why I welcome the news the Conservative Government are helping people across Mid Sussex get active by investing £10,631.00 into our grassroots sports facilities.
This means Ashurst Wood Junior FC will be able to get new goalposts, as well as Leylands Park in Burgess Hill and East Grinstead Sports Club.
This part of the Conservative Government’s clear plan to get 3.5 million more people across the country active by 2030, including one million young people.
Pharmacy First Launch
Today is the launch of Pharmacy First.
The Pharmacy First approach will allow our pharmacists to use their skills to treat more people in the community, particularly in East Grinstead and Burgess Hill, without the need for a GP appointment – speeding up their own care as well as reducing pressure on local GP services.
At least 284 of pharmacies have signed up to Pharmacy First across Sussex where they are taking part in treating sinusitis, sore throats, earaches, shingles and more.
This will help to deliver more GP appointments and speed up access to care.
Minister for Rail visits East Grinstead
Mims Davies MP welcomes Minister for Rail to East Grinstead | Mims Davies
I was very pleased to welcome Minister for Rail, Huw Merriman, MP for Bexhill and Battle, to East Grinstead this week.
Constituents often contact me regarding rail issues, particularly in East Grinstead where the unacceptable lack of regular and suitable train services leave frustrated commuters unable to rely on them to travel into work.
It was therefore crucial to invite the Minister to visit and discuss how we can improve rail services for all residents. Please do not underestimate how hard I am working on this issue and I will keep pushing to get the services on this line that we can all rely on so that the stress, anger and concerns can finally be a thing of the past.
I was also joined by Kristy Adams, the next Parliamentary Candidate for Mid Sussex. For those not aware, there is a newly shaped Mid Sussex seat formed by the boundary commission, where local resident and business woman, Kristy Adams, will be standing for us.
The Mid Sussex Parliamentary seat has now been pretty much split in half, which is why we have the new East Grinstead and Uckfield seat where I will be standing. This seat goes from Copthorne and Pease Pottage, down to Chailey and Isfield, and across to Buxted.
Royal Mail meeting in Parliament
Mims Davies MP Joins Royal Mail in Parliament with fellow Sussex MPs | Mims Davies
I'd like to thank the Royal Mail team for taking the time to join myself and fellow Sussex MP colleagues to discuss residents' concerns. Including their Regional Operations Director, John Doyle, and Head of Public Affairs at Royal Mail, Fiona Hamilton and for Maria Caufield MP my neighbouring colleague for chairing this frank meeting on behalf of constituents.
It was a good to meet with them and discuss the future of the Post Office network, including its future size and shape as the needs of our Sussex communities evolve but most importantly to hear how their plans to improve services will be delivered.
I know from my recent meeting with the local team at their Haywards Heath sorting office, just how incredibly hard they are all continuously working. I shared residents' deep concerns, and they are very much listening and trying to recruit more brilliant posties to increase their services, delivery team, and number of letters and packages delivered.
Post offices play an important role for digitally excluded, rural, elderly, and vulnerable residents, as well as small businesses and helping anchor our local high streets. It is therefore pivotal we do what we can to protect our Post Offices and help support them carry out their important role.
