What a weekend mud, sunshine, and rain! As founder of the Mid Sussex Marathon, our local London 2012 legacy event, I love playing my part handing out medals & marshalling and occasionally these days running! Massive congratulations to all who competed & particularly those who ran the magic 26.2 miles, many from our local running clubs, in our 3 fabulous towns of East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, & Burgess Hill. HUGE thanks to marshals & volunteers, local councillors & all who helped make it happen again. 2025 entries are now OPEN-details on my website.
Congratulations to newly elected Cllr Ed Godwin onto Ashplats ward on East Grinstead Town Council. Ed’s one of the youngest councillors in Sussex and UK wide at 18-years-old- a fabulous local voice whose worked his socks off speaking with local residents like all the other candidates here and in other by elections, I’m sure. Ed will be a brilliant, fresh, and young representative working with our re-elected Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner for a 4th term, Katy Bourne OBE. A big thank you to everyone who supported Ed, we’re delighted to see him progress. Good luck to all new Cllrs.
For those travelling Friday 10th May 21:00-Monday 13th 06:00, it's important to be aware of closures on the M25. These improvement plans are likely to affect residents in the Southeast. However, diversion routes are in place & can be found on my website.
As Minister for Disabled People, we are building on the £7billion package announced at the Spring budget, the key Back-to-Work-Plan, expanding our employment support & crucially treatment available. Over 10million fit notes are issued where the patients signed off, resulting in people not getting the crucial support they may need to remain in work. It’s why we plan to reform the fit note process. We’re testing shifting the responsibilities for issuing it away from primary care, so people who can stay in work or return sooner with help. This will not only help create a system better tailored to an individual’s health & work needs but also free up time for busy local GPs.
