Mims Davies MP outrage on Labour scrapping Winter Fuel Allowance
One of the first acts of this Labour Government has been to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment for millions of pensioners.
Mims Davies MP said:
"I firmly believe pensioners must be afforded dignity and respect in retirement, and I am deeply concerned about the Government’s plans for pensioners. This means this winter is already a worry for many people and this is unacceptable.
The new Labour Chancellor has announced pensioners will lose their Winter Fuel Allowance unless they are in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits. This represents losses of up to £300 for around 10 million pensioners.
This is a political choice this Labour Government is making and millions of pensioners will be worse off this winter because of it, especially with the energy price cap rising by 10% this October. This is the wrong time to be doing this and the Labour Government needs to change course.
The last Conservative Government successfully delivered around 11.9 million Winter Fuel Payments and Pensioner Cost of Living Payments to older people across the UK in December 2023. These afforded pensioners security in retirement, something I am concerned this Labour Government is not supporting.
I will be sure to press the Government on this matter and hold them to account as I know how it will impact many of my constituents across East Grinstead, Uckfield and the villages.
In the meantime, please see AgeUK's petition to save the Winter Fuel Payment for struggling pensioners below:

I will have more on the further action I am taking shortly on behalf of my constituents."
