Goodbye 2024! Blimey it has been a whirl wind of a year, especially with the surprise General Election. I am delighted and truly honoured to be elected the Conservative MP for the new East Grinstead, Uckfield, and villages constituency. I’d like to once again take the opportunity to thank all who put their trust in me and promise with my team, I will continue to do all I can to support you whether you voted for me not.
I’ve worked around the clock on the priorities of my constituents criss-crossing the area from Wivelsfield, Newick and Chailey, across to Uckfield, Buxted and Maresfield, and up to Copthorne, Pease Pottage and Turners Hill. Whether in Parliament or locally, my focus is always ensuring I’m visible and approachable by listening to your views and concerns.
Taking up 1000’s of cases and queries from constituents with hundreds of surgeries and even more campaigns and policy correspondence. My casework team and I’ve been working hard on local issues that matter to residents such as the number of housing developments being proposed across the patch without adequate infrastructure, GP Access, the mothballing of the surgical unit at Uckfield Hospital, antisocial behaviour in Copthorne and parking charge increases in East Grinstead, to name a few.
I’ve been opposing and fighting Labour’s Job Tax, Family Farm Tax, VAT on independent schools, cruel cuts to Winter Fuel Payments, Labour's National Planning Policy Framework, and the hypocrisy and betrayal of WASPI women. As Shadow Minister for Women, I see this as a clear betrayal by this Labour Government to the commitments they made to women voters. Whilst also trying to help hospices with funding and communities with grants and responding to a huge number of campaigns from Assisted Dying and Israel and Gaza, to pollution in our waters, and concerns over youngsters smartphones.
I wish all readers a happy and successful 2025 and I’m looking forward to supporting even more charities, businesses, community groups, schools and more in our special area. I hope all those who’ve been working over the festive season get a break in the new year.
