On 13th July Mims Davies MP spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on careers guidance in schools.
Mims emphasised the importance of instilling confidence in young people through good careers advice and enabling them to spend time with their local economies.
She also talked about improving peoples' science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) abilities and referenced the recent Mid Sussex STEM event, chaired by Phil Todd and linked to the Burgess Hill Business Park Association.
Events like these are crucial as they enable schoolchildren to learn about careers and local businesses they may not have previously been aware of. In fact, 70% of jobs in Mid Sussex are not on the high street; they are in small industrial areas, villages and areas that are not seen and they are exporting globally. People do not need to work in a big building to have big opportunities; it is important that young people see that.
