How much time do your children spend on their phones?
Mims Davies MP and Minister for Social Mobility, Youth and Progression was thrilled to touch on such an important topic last week on BBC South East Politics.
Mims Davies MP was joined on BBC SE Politics by the MP for Brighton Kemptown, as well as teenage campaigner, Vivien Farkas-Haholt, who is spreading awareness of the impact of the online world and the damaging impact it can have on young people's mental health.
At just 16 years of age, Vivien co-hosted the online launch event for a children’s safety kit, at which Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex was a key speaker. The global event hosted by 5Rights Foundation and End Violence Partnership launched a new set of ready-made policies that governments and organisations around the world can adopt to protect children online and included other speakers such as youth advocates from around the world, and representatives from the United Nations, African Union and European Union.
During the interview, Mims touches on how she has 2 young daughters and the amount of casework received from understandably worried parents on the content online, from propaganda on diet pills, to suicide content and the thorough job that is being done to put a halt to this and how inspiring it is to hear from the youth voice on such an important topic and their points of views, including when it comes to phone use in schools.
