Mims Davies MP wrote to the Chancellor on Agricultural support ahead of the Budget.
Mims said:
My new constituency of East Grinstead and Uckfield spans both East and West Sussex so I can safely say I am writing to you on behalf of Sussex farmers and growers, many of whom have requested I contact you to make the case for a boosted, long-term agricultural budget commitment to meet the many societal demands on farming and agricultural land and to unlock the growth potential of the rural economy.
Mims continued:
The farmer area of Sussex makes up 550,000 acres, roughly 59% of the total Sussex area with tenant making up 48% of all farmed land.
Mims added:
The food and drink industry in the UK is worth £148 billion and employs more than 4 million people; British farming is where it all starts. An investment in agricultural productivity is an investment in economic growth, creating employment and opportunity in our rural communities.
Mims finished:
The Conservative manifesto recognised that farmers are the backbone of the country and had pledged to raise UK farm spending by £1bn, amongst other targeted measures over the life of the next Parliament. The question is, will Labour make British farming a priority in this Budget? I know farmers? I know farmers across our rural communities will be watching your budget with keen interest.
